Taking On a Challenge

Susan of Black-Eyed Susan and Color Online has created a new challenge and I'm joining in!

From now until August 30, those who choose to accept this challenge will "commit to reading and reviewing YA literature by and about characters of color".

I have never participated in any challenges (mostly due to lack of time), but I am totally up for this one. My August review calendar is absolutely slammed, but I feel so passionate about this challenge that I am willing to give up my TV and Twitter time to add some culturally diverse books to this month's TBR pile.

I'm hoping that other YA bloggers will join in. I mean even if you only read and review one book by or about characters of color, that's a start!

For more information about the challenge, check out Susan's Color Me Brown post.

I want to do this challenge! I would love to try and hunt down books that center around hispanic culture (or the main character or something)-- so if you have any suggestions, please email me! x)

Shalonda, rock on, girlfriend. Appreciate it.

Eli, drop me an email or do a search at Color Online. I can easily suggest titles to you.

Pre-Teen,

Any genre or theme you enjoy in mainstream fiction exists among people of color writers. Reading something by a poc writer doesn't mean you have to challenge yourself to read something you don't like or normally read.

Everything by a poc writer isn't about race/ethnicity.

I'm reading a book with a character of color right now, and it's pretty good. It's not YA though, it's adult. It's actually a Biography. I got it at my school orientation and it's an assignment to read it and write an essay. I'm really happy that the books they pick out are really good! It's a big relief that I won't be snoring while learning.

Cool, welcome to the challenge.
And B.A.M's got me curious about what they're reading.
